This immersive training is designed for people who already have experience with Kambo and wish to deepen their relationship with the medicine in an authentic, culturally respectful way. Over eleven days you will live and learn alongside the Matsés family — in ceremony, in the forest, and in daily workshops.
The training covers Kambo ceremonies performed by the Matsés family; safe and harm-free medicine acquisition; self-application techniques; how to safely serve others, including screening and application processes; and workshops on Nunu, rapé kuripe, Agua de Florida, Shambira natural fibres, and tincture-making. Participation follows the dietary and behavioural guidelines that are part of the traditional Matsés way of working.
A word of honesty: this training deepens your knowledge, practice, and relationship with Kambo and the Matsés tradition. It does not by itself confer a professional license or regulated credential — how you practice afterwards remains your responsibility, guided by the ethics and care you learn here.
What to Know About Kambo
What is Kambo? Kambo is the name given to the secretion of the Phyllomedusa bicolor, a giant tree frog of the Amazon rainforest. The secretion contains a unique blend of bioactive peptides, and has been used for generations by the Matsés as a cleansing and strengthening medicine.
How is it collected? The secretion is gathered in a respectful, non-lethal way. The frog is not harmed during the process and is returned to its natural habitat immediately afterward — you will learn this practice directly, including night excursions to meet the frogs.
How is it applied? Small points, or "gates," are opened on the skin using a smoldering stick, typically on the upper arm or leg. The dried Kambo is mixed with a little water and applied to these points. The experience is short and intense — a strong physical purge followed, for many, by a sense of clarity and renewed strength. Traditional uses are described here; they are not guaranteed medical outcomes.

Kris leads the facilitation of the training — accompanying you trauma-informed through the ceremonies, workshops, and integration, and offering private follow-up integration sessions after your journey.
El Encanto de Chullachaqui
Our retreat center rests in the rainforest outside Iquitos, in the Shipibo homeland — reached by river and a short walk into the jungle. You stay in private accommodation surrounded by the living forest, with the ceremony maloca, plant baths, and the family of the center around you.

Do I need prior Kambo experience?
Yes. This training is designed for people who already have experience receiving Kambo and wish to deepen their practice and relationship with the medicine in an authentic, culturally respectful way.
Will I be certified to practice Kambo?
The training gives you thorough, traditional grounding: application technique, screening, safety, ethics, and the living Matsés tradition. We are careful not to promise a professional license or regulated credential, because Kambo practice is not governed by an official regulatory body. What you leave with is knowledge, practice, relationship, and responsibility — learned directly from the tradition's guardians.
Is the frog harmed?
No. The secretion is gathered in a respectful, non-lethal way, and the frog is returned to its natural habitat immediately afterward. You will learn this practice directly with the Matsés family.
Is this training safe if I take medication?
Some medications and conditions — particularly heart conditions — are not compatible with Kambo. Our screening includes a full health and medication review, and we will advise you honestly. Never stop a medication without the supervision of your prescribing doctor.
What if I need help integrating afterwards?
We offer group calls and personalized support post-retreat, including your one-to-one integration session.
